Three disenfranchised chapters form Unity Coalition at Pacific Green Party Roundtable 2

At the December 14th Pacific Green Party Roundtable Second Meeting, the Lane, Linn-Benton, and Green Liberty chapters discussed how to deal with the problem of being disenfranchised from the party. They decided to form a “unity coalition” to restore democracy and advance media statements in the name of the Pacific Green Party.

Members from the Oregon coast, north and south sections, southern Oregon, Willamette Valley, and Portland Metro attended the meeting.

All three chapters were disenfranchised under a specious “elections committee” report from the February 24/25, 2024 convention that rationalized throwing out the votes of 39 of 72 participating members.

Green Liberty Caucus chapter and Lane chapter were targeted by the elections report for ‘decertification.’ This twist of a positive agenda item for inclusion, shows a malicious effort by the “committee” to exclude these party members on grounds they did not comport with the “progressive socialist” ethos of the PGP, said the report.

Excluding registered Green Party members violates Oregon revised statute that explicitly says that a political party shall be inclusive and not exclusive.

Linn Benton membership was discarded for expediency to rationalize the numbers needed for the specious report.

Subsequent to the February convention, and the electoral theft and rupture, the State Coordinating Committee of the Pacific Green Party has fallen into acrimony and division.

Given this, the SCC cannot be the voice of the party and so it falls to the active party chapters, as the grass roots of the party, to advance the party’s interest.

Marv Sandness counseled the coalition to build solidarity with all party members on an issue that will unite everyone. The group accepted the idea from Mark Rolofson for a strong statement against the Ukraine War.

The consensus of the meeting was not to participate in the January 25, 2025 convention on grounds the convention would conduct a webinar and not a true convention with active individual participation. The ballot results from the January convention would likely be rigged again by the few individuals who currently control the State Party to maintain their power.
